Here is another way to do it that I like a lot.

< img src= "hyperlink" width = "25%" or so.

100% equals the width of the area designated for text, graphics, etc. according to the page setup. On an FR thread page that is the entire screen.

I generally guess a percentage of the width of the page that I think will be good for an image I'm posting. Mostly between 20% and 35%. A little practice and you get a good idea of what percentage will work for a given image.

I do not find that easy to quickly get the right dimensions from large images without skewing it. Maybe he is using a desktop rather than a smartphone or laptop.
