A new Florida law that requires small-town officials to disclose their financial information has sparked a wave of resignations from small-town governments.
The new law is called Form 6, and it's the top issue for many small-town governments across the state.
St. Pete Beach was one of the latest cities to see a mass resignation when four out of the five city council members decided to quit their jobs this week instead of complying with the new disclosure rules.
According to St. Pete Beach Vice Mayor Mark Grill, the resignations shouldn't come as a surprise to state officials. Grill said the potential for mass resignations was brought up to state officials in August. They estimated upwards of 40 percent of small-town local leaders could be lost because of the new disclosure requirements.

If you’re a public official, then your financial dealings should be public as well. Furthermore, random drug and tox screens should come with the office.

A few have made that argument, and I understand it, however the IRS mandates it for EVERYONE, try to get a Security Clearance without divulging the info, try going through Homeland Security and Immigration without disclosing. They will find out anyway, even if you don’t tell them, A lot of positions demand this information upfront and failure to disclose might be a Criminal Act, and most definitely could lead to them Denying you whatever you were signing up for.

The really corrupt ones just pay their family six figure for campaign activities. This sounds like they got a break. Disclose all of income received by family members, then the other half might resign. Clean house! Now go national.

It would not surprise me to find out the majority are Democrats and are doing this as a protest against DeSantis and other Republicans holding state office.

The U.S. Constitution is supposed to be a very limited delegation of powers to the government. The Anti-federalist arguments supporting the inclusion of the first ten amendments to that document, commonly called the "bill of rights" won the day, thank God.I shudder to think what our nation would be like if the federalists, some of whom had viewpoints similar to yours, had gotten their way. Among other things, I'm sure our gun laws would now be very similar to those of the UK
Instead of staying and fighting unconstitutional crap like this (that I guess desantis is fine with?) they abandon jobs and let those positions be taken by worse people, willing to allow unconstitutional things like this to be enforced.

I suspect DeSantis was thinking this is a good way to weed out the bad ones, but instead I think the opposite will happen. This law will go down as a huge blunder in the history of FL politics.
