I think that pre-puberty, when girls are often similar to boys in size and strength it really doesn’t matter as much. The kids themselves aren’t really sure of the differences. (All we knew about girls was that most had cooties, and they were transmissible through contact.) At about 6th grade, some girls can be stronger than boys. All that changes rapidly when the juice starts flowing.
