Minimum wage to rise in 22 states next year - here are the hourly rates in each one....(map)

Twenty-two states are set to increase their minimum wages at the start of 2024.

Come January 1, nine states as well as DC will have minimum wages of at least $15, according to an analysis by DailyMail.com.

Washington State will introduce a minimum wage of $16.28 an hour, making it the nation's highest. Next is California which will have a minimum wage of $16.00 an hour.

There is no state minimum wage law in five Southern states: Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, or Tennessee.

In those states minimum wages therefore default to the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour - a level at which it has remained for the past 15 years. In May, Senator Bernie Sanders proposed a bill raising it by more than $10.

A handful of states have more complex minimum wages which are impacted by the size of the employer. For example, in New Jersey the minimum will be $15.13 for businesses with six or more employees but $13.73 for those with fewer.

Similarly, in Minnesota the minimum wage will be $10.85 if the employer has annual revenue of at least $500,000 but $8.85 if lower.

Yum, Brisket.

But I quit buying Brisket several years ago when my favorite BBQ place started charging $ 20.00 a pound for it. It was good, but not THAT good.

That’s currently the price. Heck it’s even $6-12 raw at the grocery store. I’m used to paying $1.99 - $3.99 raw.

Thanks to the economy...

Well, This was in a resort town with little competition and mostly wealthy customers. I bet it costs double that now.

I think what most are pointing out is that everytime the GOVERNMENT steps in to (so called) help you they just F#CK you over worse than you were before.

The government shouldn’t be the one determining what any job is worth, that should be left up to a FREE ECONOMY.

All this does is price EVERY HIGH SCHOOL KID OUT OF A JOB!

Why would any employer higher a KID to do a braindead job when he/she can higher a braindead (so called) adult to do it for the same wage.

It’s all a jobs program for ILLEGAL ALIENS!

No matter what they're reasoning the bottom line is ‘live within your means’ - which this entitlement generation refuses to accept. If you don't like what means you have then do the 'work' needed to change that equation. Of course that does mean putting in the hours and the work.

You might add that you yourself will have more work rather than dump it all on the one remaining employee.

$15.00/hr was a barely decent salary in 1990.

Robots such as industrial assembly line robots and even atm’s and self checkout lines need to pay social security. If it replaces a worker with a machine the owner of the machine needs to be required to withhold payroll taxes for that machine equal to what the human workers would have paid. This will help fund social security and medicare as well as remove some incentives to automation replacing human workers
