Depends on what the meaning of “music” is! I think classical music is edifying. But, who needs a taxpayer-funded grant to identify my musical preferences or moral proclivities?

This is fine except mostly backwards as to how it comes about.

Correlation is not causation for several reasons. Consequently, I am skeptical of the results of number-crunching without insight.

It would be better to start with a possible insight and go from there.

It’s obvious that a preference for gospel music suggests a religious orientation. What about a preference for rap music? Surely, that is suggestive of something.

What about classical or other instrumental music? Perhaps this correlates with logical thinking and mathematical reasoning. If there is causation, in what direction? Are logical people drawn to instrumental music? Do children who listen to classical music acquire certain cognitive abilities?

So, can we assume if you like Yoko Ono, Zamphir, Slim Whitman, or Billy Ray Cyrus, you’re a mass murderer?

How do they factor in unintelligible lead vocals? A good example is Steve Winwood on “Shootout At The Fantasy Factory” by Traffic (1973).

A few weeks back I read a post at FR that I considered racist. It’s a rare thing here. I won’t be harsh. Clearly the person posting had some experience with people at the bottom end of the Black community. I am talking about the kind of people that many Blacks would describe using the N-word.

I’m a firm believer in nurture over nature on this topic. Democrats insist that Blacks attend low-quality, inner-city, government schools that teach nothing in 12 years, but to vote Democrat. It does not have to be that way.

Perhaps music says it all:

So many women are big fans of Taylor Swift and think her music is the tops. Are they all innocent girls with good morals? Are they all gold digging whores like the Kardashians? I doubt all her fans could be put in one philosophical box

So what about people who listen to prog rock? We probably find most everything too complicated to fit into their 4 bubble world.

FTA
music is “a powerful medium that reflects and shapes our moral sensibilities”
I agree with that to a degree. Also, the adolescent brain is possibly susceptible to many subliminal forces.
And then there is the “where do you spend your time” aspect. It is no wonder that lyrics going around in one’s head would influence behavior.

Specifically, musical elements like pitch and timbre emerged as crucial predictors for values of Care and Fairness, while sentiments and emotions expressed in lyrics were more effective in predicting traits of Loyalty, Authority, and Purity.

Thank you for working to provide the meat of the article via excerpts, yet to no fault of your own, I was still left looking for the specific findings of correlation, which none of the article provides. My guess is that liberals do not like gospel and country music.

So they will force boys to listen to music only girls would pay for, and ban music they believe causes boy to be masculine.
