I thought guns were illegal in NYC?
Not illegal, just intentionally a real pain in the ass to purchase and carry legally. That was the intention all along.
Before the change only the rich and elite could own and maybe carry. Police and retired police being the only exception. Now in theory anyone without a mental or criminal history can. Takes over 3 months and $1000 dollars to become legal plus the cost of the handgun. Then you need to renew every 3 years for close to $400 renewal fees. Rifles and shotguns are slightly easier and less expensive.
Some of the animals are more "equal" then others...
