What is being eliminated is the requirement to spend four years and a considerable amount of money just to be able add “BA” or “BS” to their resume so they can get a check in the box when being screened for an entry level position that doesn’t really require it.
The downstream impact to this transition will be an intensified demand that students graduating high school are really able to confidently read, write and do arithmetic at grade level. Education professionals are not going to like that.
Also career preparation community college-level courses might be significantly expanded to serve as a backstop to public school system shortcomings/failures and as a job training /applicant screening measure. To some extent, community colleges already do this with certificates and specific industry-focused curricula. What can be envisioned is an expansion of the demand for the general skills courses in the three “R”s since many office/retail jobs will train a generally literate employee on the specifics of their position.

I see this as an effort to continue the dumbing down of American and creating the ability to hire more illiterates. Twenty years ago I noticed a rise in stupid people in the workplace. There’s no other word for it.
