Given the pressure from the US, and the Israeli government’s susceptibility to it, I’d give Hamas a greater than even chance of surviving to some degree, getting thousands of murderous terrorists released, and getting the world to squeeze Israel hard to cede even more territory, perhaps Jerusalem. I think they’d chalk that up as a victory.
I fear you are correct. Hamas has made real gains in popular support, which shouldn’t surprise me. Most people are stupid.
