Hunter Biden offers himself up for public grilling by House panel probing his shady business ties

First son Hunter Biden has offered to publicly testify before the House Oversight Committee investigating his business ties, according to a copy of a letter his attorney sent to the panel obtained by The Post.

Hunter, 53, agreed to testify on Dec. 13 in a letter sent to the panel, which was first obtained by NBC News.

He was subpoenaed by House Republicans earlier this month, and was originally summoned to appear in a closed-door, transcribed interview.

But his attorney suggested details of a private sitdown would be selectively leaked to “manipulate” the facts.

“We have seen you use closed-door sessions to manipulate, even distort the facts and misinform the public. We therefore propose opening the door,” his lawyer Abbe Lowell said in the letter.

“Your Committee has been working for almost a year — without success — to tie our client’s business activities to his father,” he said, accusing the House panel of “manipulating” Hunter’s “legitimate business dealings” and history of addiction “into a politically motivated basis for hearings to accuse his father of some wrongdoing.”

He's so arrogant that he thinks he can plow his way through the committee. And considering the ineptitude of the House GOP, he might not be overestimating his skills. This guy thinks he's bulletproof, and by the looks of it so far, it seems to be true.

Pride goeth before the fall.

“I don’t recall! I don’t remember! I have no recollection!”

What’s the downside of having him say this publicly versus in a private deposition?

Exactly! And if, instead of claiming forgetfulness, he takes the Fifth, even better.

I don't understand why the Republicans want a closed-door hearing. In another thread, Wuli suggested that Hunter might claim "national security" as a reason to not answer questions publicly, but I don't buy that. Joe Biden's line has been that Hunter has no involvement in the administration. AFAIK Hunter doesn't even have a security clearance. He has no legitimate "national security" claim.

It makes me wonder if the GOP fears he'll implicate some of them in something shady.

Good ol’ Joe. Guess we should take him at his word and call off the hearings.

Hunter is a POS. But I know a guy in Florida who probably wouldn’t do the same.

Those indeed maybe the replies. But that would look like he’s got something to hide. I don’t understand why Comer wants to do a closed door first as Hunter could give the same answers you noted. And if he is transparent, then what?

And if Joe doesn’t?

The first problem is that someone on the Bidet Regime's DOJ needs to actually charge Hunter with a serious crime. The only chance he doesn't eventually get a pardon is Slow Joe dropping dead before January 20, 2025.

I figure this is only happening to deflect from something else we aren’t supposed to notice.

Humper is never going to pay for anything he has done because he will be pardoned.

The president can issue a pardon for a crime committed but not charged. Anything Hunter has done to date can be pardoned. Ha cannot he be pardoned for a crime he may commit tomorrow.

Hunter will receive a pardon from his father before the end of his term, unless Slow Joe first drops dead or becomes more obviously mentally incapacitated. Dr. Jill will guide his hand to sign the document. After Slow Joe loses power, Hunter will likely disappear somewhere, and may well leave the country.

Sure, NOW he says he'll testify. But only after he's had at least a year to fully rehearse his LIES in response to the questions he'll get.

Why not just do it now to avoid the embarrassment and legal bills?

Pardoning someone, and the acceptance of the pardon, is usually construed as an admission of guilt. It looks very bad for a father to do that for his son, especially when the father is "the Big Guy" profiting from his son's illicit business, and was in fact what made the illicit influence trafficking profitable. The Biden's don't want to issue the pardon's until after the 2024 Election. The day after the election, a pardon would be OK, but not before. They don't want to need to steal even more votes than they already need.
