Yeah, the draft is not popular, but if we still had it, our NG and Reserve Units would not be looking for recruits, they’d be over strength with lines of volunteers trying to get in. Base Pay for a RA Pvt. today is $1917.60. It sure beats the $71 a month I got in the early 60’s. With the draft, we who served, got to know our neighbors, as it took in everyone, which led to a bonding experience for all. It was a good thing, not something to run away and hide from. My time is almost over now, be interesting to see where we go from here, but I doubt I will.
