6 year time is fine the Founding Fathers had it right for the right reasons. The horrible mistake was the 17th Amendment. It made the just another version of the House. Severed the senator from his job his only job that of representing his state to the federal government. Repealing the 17th Amendment would solve most of the problem.

The country and the constitution are quite different from when the constitution was ratified. States have been largely subsumed by the federal colossus. Senators no longer represent states. They represent themselves, and too frequently the interests of foreign governments rather than the states. The six year term enables senators to do this. Other countries have an upper body which serves to temper imprudent legislation without giving an upper house 6 year terms of office. The Senate is a millionaires club. The more I see it in action, the more I want it reformed.

There is more popular opinion to repeal the 19th Amendment than the 17th Amendment. It will never happen. Limiting campaign contributions in state or by Congressional district may be possible, but popular election of senators is here to stay.

Try reading some history. The Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth went from being one of the largest, and most populous countries in Europe to disappearing from the map because its Senate was so corrupt, and foreign powers bribed senators to kill legislation. How much influence does China have over McConnell and other senators? Too much. Senators lie to get elected and then we need to wait 6 years to remove them, if we have honest elections. The senate seats in GA and PA were essentially appointed by the state's executive branch and illegitimate elections. Our senate is corrupt and causes great damage to our country.
