Two years after Nikki Haley vowed not to challenge Donald Trump for the presidential nomination, the former South Carolina governor who served in his administration and once called him a “friend” is becoming the standard-bearer of the movement to knock him out.
In recent weeks, Haley has drawn a surge in support from Trump-skeptical Republicans across the GOP, including donors and organizers in early voting states. A group of former Tim Scott donors is preparing to host a fundraiser for her in Manhattan. Haley’s campaign events in New Hampshire this week required overflow rooms. And in Iowa — where Haley has steeper competition from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — some conservatives are busy corralling support for her.
“Nikki Haley is certainly locking up a lot of the Never Trumpers,” said Matthew Bartlett, a Republican operative who has worked on several presidential campaigns and is unaffiliated this cycle. “She also has real room to grow.”
Donors getting ready to host Haley in New York on Dec. 4 include two people close to Paul Singer, the hedge fund billionaire who has been critical of Trump. Greg Wendt, a former Scott supporter who has donated to moderate, anti-Trump Republicans such as John Kasich and John McCain, is now expressing interest in Haley, according to a New York City-based Republican fundraiser granted anonymity to speak freely about private conversations. And Doug Gross, a Republican operative who was the Iowa GOP nominee for governor in 2002, told POLITICO he plans to caucus for Haley after surveying the field for months in search of an alternative to Trump.
“Never Trumpers and ‘Anybody but Trumpers’ are really consolidating around her from a financial standpoint,” said Gross, who was chief of staff to former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad.

“Haley has drawn a surge in support...”
“She also has real room to grow.”
I guess, with her “surge” from 7% to a whopping 10% in polls, she does have tons of “room to grow”.
“...where the GOP RINO establishment there can screw him out of the nomination by arbitrary rules changes.”
That’s been their dream from DAY ONE, literally, the day Trump came down the escalator.
And they could toss Trump, just as they could have voted to convict him during Impeachment, as we all know that 90% or so of the GOP wanted to do. Plus, the judicial ruling against Bernie in 2016 (the one keeping Skunk Cabbage on the ballot) stated that Primaries are only ‘advisory’ and party leaders can do as they wish in their conventions.
So why didn’t Trump get pulled? For the same reason it won’t happen again - if the GOP screws Trump and gets him off the ballot, then the ELECTED Republicans, plus the Republican candidates go down with him, as few Trump voters are going to pull the lever for down-ballot Republicans if Trump is screwed over, even if those Republicans are able to rightly claim that they had nothing to do with the screw-over.
So, again, the same situation exists, hence the goal of trying to use the DNC to get Trump off the ballot via law-fare...when it’s almost certain that Republican leaders are advising the Democrat prosecutors (no evidence, but then is any evidence even needed, given their histories with Trump?).
The Republicans are desperately trying to arrange a “brokered convention”, which means all that they have to do is make sure that Trump is NOT elected on the first ballot, then the RINO wing can pick whoever they want and screw us common folk. So the non-Trump faction has to make up more than 50% and they will change the rules to make it brokered. So, he might have 48% to 20% for the next highest, and would still lose. That is why they started out with 10 losers to oppose him.
“The Republicans are desperately trying to arrange a “brokered convention””
As I posted above, literally ANY attempt to screw Trump out of the nomination will mean a TOTAL WIPEOUT of virtually ALL Republicans on the ballot (as in Senate, House, and Dog Catcher). Maybe they haven’t yet done their polling, but when they get around to it, they’ll find that Trump supporters are not the ‘Party First’ type that will look the other way when Trump is screwed over.
They are not Republicans.
I disagree. It was Trump calling Gov. Haley “Birdbrain” that lost him my vote. Can anyone remember “name-calling” being a winning strategy for POTUS?
She’s an anchor baby and Constitutionally not eligible to run for Pres/VP.
That said...the Constitution became irrelevant with Bathhouse Barry Obamatollah’s election.
Agree
In other words...a complete loser of a ticket. Nikki isn’t going to attract any Dems, and many Republicans will just stay home. The days of holding one’s nose to pull the lever are over, and they refuse to acknowledge it.
Nope....
You're full of it. Your TDS was proudly on display way before birdbrain came on the scene.
Lying, flip flopping, anti-Second Amendment, pro-Hamas, traitor and tool of the Deep State and globalists. I would NEVER vote for her. She would be a total setback for the Trump revolution and turn the party back to the Bush-Bush-Romney Party.
—> Can anyone remember “name-calling” being a winning strategy for POTUS?
Yes, in the past 2 primaries.
… plus Nikki Harpy is a birdbrain, so there’s that.
This is just Politico being hopeful
Media Matters must be in love with Nikki, because all the Fake News networks are suddenly fawning over her.
I wonder who handed her the 30 pieces of silver...
That’s how a life-long Democrat, like Wendell Wilkie got to be the nominee in 1940.
Icky Nikki makes me sicky
