From what I see, China didn’t build a foundation for anything.
China's foundation is fine. It is home of a million factories. China's big problem is their fertility, not their economic productivity.
When your country's birth rate is 1.0 birth per woman, that means one grandchild needs to support four grandparents or one married couple needs to support eight grandparents. That is a mathematical certainty. No need to predict the future.

China's foundation is fine.
That should read "China's manufacturing foundation is fine."

How many real innovations has China created?
They’ve stolen a lot of technology, estimated to be about $1 trillion/yr. However, how many actual new things to the world did China actually contribute from non-existence to existence?
They’ve stolen technology and they’ve made improvement to things they’ve stolen, but how many things, relatively speaking, can they say that they did that nobody else did?
That’s what I meant when I said it’s shallow ground.

(It turns out that I did not buy my cell phone for all the calls I might be missing at home.)
