Once Florida's favorite son, Floridians turn on DeSantis in his bid for president

Despite winning a landslide election in the state two years ago, DeSantis hasn't been able to win over enough base GOP voters there. That includes Victor Alvarez and Sally Maltais — who attended Trump's recent rally in Hialeah, Fla. Both said they think Trump has next year's election pretty much locked up.

Maltais said DeSantis' decision is particularly egregious because Trump helped DeSantis win the first time he ran for Florida governor.

"He backstabbed our president," she said. "And now I have no respect for DeSantis. I'm sorry. I don't."

"I won't vote for him again."....

DeSantis has already served as a member of Congress and Fine said a U.S. Senate bid is a longshot...And so there's no kind of obvious off ramp for him to go when his term as governor is finished."

Yes, it shows the sentiment of people in Florida.

As a Floridian, no it doesn't.

DeSantis the governor and DeSantis the presidential candidate are two different things. You can support the governor completely without being behind his campaign.

This BS dichotomy crap has got to stop. The world is not binary. We are allowed to have opinions.

So DeSantis runs for Senator against Andrew Gillum, and Floridians won’t vote for DeSantis? BS
DeSantis is running against an anomaly in Trump. He’s still going to win any election he runs in at the state level.

Good article for once, I am a Floridian and feel exactly the same way. Florida is a Trump state.

LOL

You want to know how people know you’re not in Florida, and don’t know anything about the state, except you are enamored about desantis?

As a Floridian, no it doesn't.

As a Floridian, you are one of many. By this article alone, you have been outvoted by two of the other Floridians mentioned.

Trump will win if he’s the candidate. RDS will might get the vote of Floridians if Trump is not the candidate due to the dims prosecuting him etc. but highly unlikely he can win the general election. If Trump is not the candidate I can see a lot of us just staying home that day.

I’ll be for DeSantis in ‘28 if Johnson runs with DeSantis. Right now I like either a Johnson-DeSantis or a DeSantis-Johnson. By then I’ll have gotten over the DeSantis bullshit that went on during the Biden bullshit. I’ll never get over the Biden bullshit and that’s too much bullshit to have to live with already.

I live in Florida - I like DeSantis but I like Trump more... that’s how lots of us feel. DeSantis has been the best governor we’ve ever had - and he wins every battle with the WOKE fruitcakes.

DeSantis should have waited until ‘28

It’s binary when you talk about genders... Non binary genders don’t exist except in a twisted mind.

Otherwise I agree with what you said 🤣🤣🤣

Many have said it wasn’t his time.

I think his run for President at this time has hurt his brand-name more than it has helped.

Just my 2-cents.

It appears that DeSantis isn't ready yet. There's nothing wrong with that. He's young.

But the fact that DeSantis doesn't recognize that he isn't ready makes him look even less ready.

Along this line, I remember the dean of students saying something to this effect when I was a freshman. He said, "Being naive is a problem for new students, but at least realizing that you are naive will help you become a successful student. On the other hand, not recognizing your naivete and reveling in it will doom you to failure."

DeSantis seems oblivious to his own weaknesses...and that's a bigger problem than not being ready.

I live in Florida too... I admire DeSantis but have never wavered in my support for Trump.

DeSantis has been great for our state. He should have waited to run for President until ‘28
