I BELIEVE that Hamas won the election by about 65%. So, basically a landslide election. However, that still leaves about a 1/3 of the voters in Gaza voted for the other guys.
Whether that other guy was Islamic Jihad, the PLO or some other faction. NONE of those other political groups in Gaza were in favor of peace with Israel.

Fatah (not exactly wonderful people themselves, but so far not known to be involved in mass barbarism) actually won the election 44% to 42% for Hamas, the remainder 14% being various smaller groups. Fatah formed a coalition gov’t which was later overthrown (NOT in a vote) by Hamas.

One of the interrogations of a Hamas terrorist caught by Israel in recent days was illuminating. He described various barbaric acts he’d committed. The interrogator asked him what his (the terrorist’) father would think of this, the terrorist replied his father would likely shoot him. Now, whether that’s for the barbarism, or because Hamas has brought IDF hell upon Gaza, I don’t claim to know.
