Minor correction: Bob Giaimo stayed on until 1981. The Dem nominee to succeed him was none other than Joe Lieberman. Lieberman lost to liberal Republican Larry DeNardis that year, who in turn lost reelection after a single term to Bruce Morrison.

Thank you. It was a long time since Black Elk relayed that story to me. I should have remembered both Morrison and DeNardis. The latter ran a column in the weekly Advisor (a "free" version of the Bargain News composed mostly of consumer classifieds). Morrison was rated the most liberal member of Congress for a while.
