In a way this is no different than the people like me leaving the Rust Belt states in the 1980s. I grew up in a suburb of Buffalo. My three siblings and I all went to SUNY colleges and then left NY state. I went to NH. My other brothers went to PA, TX and NC. All of us are conservatives.

I could have taken a job in Charlestown, MA and the Bronx. I turned down both of those opportunities because of their locations.

I left WNY because it was not a place I wanted to live my life. People are now CA for the same reason.

Boston/Charlestown is undoubtedly Democrat. However, they are slightly more rational regarding crime than here in Austin. Also, the property taxes are less in Boston than in Austin.
