The IDF’s war on Hamas is going better than it expected… for now
Times of Israel ^ | November 8, 2023 | LAZAR BERMAN

After a period of doubt as IDF troops idled on the Gaza border for weeks, Israel’s government has shown a serious commitment to the ground invasion of the Hamas-run enclave.

Three divisions are inside the northern half of the Gaza Strip, cutting the territory in half and making steady progress toward the heart of Gaza City.

A month into the war, launched in the wake of the Hamas massacres on October 7, the military and Israel’s political leadership boast of significant achievements against Hamas. Israel’s allies continue to support its attempts to destroy the terrorist organization, and the unity government running the war appears stable.

But there are reasons for concern, even if the war seems to have gone even better than expected at this point.

After October 7, experts warned that the impending ground invasion would be “very, very messy.” The US sent military experts to Israel to reportedly convince its leaders that urban combat would be too bloody

If you talk to the media, you are not an expert.

period of doubt?

i have not seen any sign that their resolve has waned

i thought the initial delay was to allow more time for evacuation

So far hummus is getting their a$$es kicked. They totally underestimated the Israeli response and over estimated the response their raghead buddies would provide.

I’m thinking the initial delay was due to the IDF getting their act together. They had to activate reserves, equip them, prepare battle plans and soften/destroy targets.

This isn’t a video game.

If there is ANYTHING we have learned in recent years it is that you can believe nothing from the media. Nothing at all.

Remember the 6 days war? That was Israel vs multiple countries. Yom Kippur war? Israel vs multiple countries.

Both lasted less than 3 weeks.

Here we are, more than a month, vs. one country.

Believe nothing from the media. We know nothing of what goes on there.

I will note the one difference apparent to me of this situation vs decades of past conflict is there are now long range weapons that can’t be stopped aimed at Israel. This is different. Tel Aviv was never at significant risk in the past.

There’s also a matter of intelligence gathering. One might like to think that they had thorough prior knowledge of how and where Hamas had been building their underground warrens ... I suspect now that their knowledge was as good as they wanted it to be before going in.

It was designed to locate the Hamas leadership. And to allow some civilians who managed to get away to leave Gaza City.

IDF leaders are smart. Bibi is determined and the Israeli citizens are tough people.

Hamas will be eliminated. (they are crying claiming 10,000 dead.) I don’t believe anything that Hamas says.

“..They had to activate reserves, equip them, prepare battle plans and soften/destroy targets....”

That and get detailed intelligence, which, no doubt they now have. I am sure they know exactly where every Hamas commander and missile launcher is located.

Well played by the IDF. The hamas inbreds thought the IDF was going to rush in like the charge of the Light Brigade immediately. The IDF strategy flat footed the inbreds. And their toadies in the Western press haven’t been able to get to do their usual collaboration because they got their fingers burnt in the initial hospital lie.

Gaza isn’t a country and Hamas isn’t a government.

Its like the US taking Fallujah. It may be a tough fight, and many of the locals don’t like you, but its not that difficult for a large professional army to do.

The question facing Israel is how to set up long-term governance of Gaza, which they control and how to make a peace that will keep the locals quiescent

From the river to the sea, Hamas had better flee.

I doubt Northern Gaza will be habitable without infrastructure, housing and their rat tunnels. Israel has created a large buffer.

Gaza isn’t a country and Hamas isn’t a government.

Call Gaza what you want, a chunk of land works for me. Hamas was elected by the people living in the chunk of land called Gaza. Are the terrorists? Yes. But it is important to play along that it is some form of government because that makes the people who elected Hamas culpable and responsible for 10/7.

As for the long term control of Gaza, I have my opinion which probably is not even popular on FR. Israel should control Gaza and the people there must find a new home when they are evicted. I suggest the go to Iran. No matter what, a terrorist organization can never take root in Gaza again. If the current people in Gaza are not their and they are replaced by Israelis it’s a safe bet that terrorists will not reconstitute. By the way, the same should occur in the West Bank.
