It could have something to do with the shortage of nurses. However, many companies have a “neutral reference” policy for former workers. They will only confirm a person had been employed there but will not disclose performance issues or reasons the employment ceased. Makes it difficult to determine if the applicant is worthy of hire or not.

It also makes it difficult for the former employee to sue for defamation...
