The problem is they have given Russia utterly no incentive to settle for anything less than a full restoration of Russia’s pre 1918 borders with Ukraine. That would mean Kharkov and Odessa and the entire Black Sea Coast.
The alternative is Russia just wait a little longer until Ukraine completely runs out of men. They’re not too far from that now. Then they can just take whatever they want.

Beyond that, any ‘settlement’ will very likely call for full UN recognition of Russia’s new borders, which is far beyond anything they discussed prior to the Neocons starting this war.
