DeSantis, Haley, and the rest gambled that the Republican base would walk away from Trump due to his legal problems. So did the oligarch donors who have funded their campaigns. It is likely that the oligarchs and GOP politicians had advanced knowledge of the Democrat lawfare. They badly misjudged the mood of the Republican electorate. The big money is drying up.

I credit conservative anger at the COVID shutdowns and attempts to mandate the vaccines, as well as the Democrats overreacting to January 6th. Additionally, the attempts by Big Tech to shut out rightist dissent backfired, as conservatives abandoned YouTube, Google, Facebook, etc., to alternative blogs, search engines, and podcasts. There is no longer a figure like William Buckley or Rush Limbaugh to keep conservatives within the Overton Window of acceptable opinions.

Don’t forget conservative anger over the stolen election. For many conservatives, this was the last straw, and the only way to make things right is putting Trump back in the White House.
