Kevin McCarthy gets first primary challenger after losing speaker's gavel

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will face a primary challenger for his seat in Congress in 2024 in the form of a self-described "America First Republican," after being ousted from lower chamber leadership by a group of dissident conservative lawmakers.

McCarthy became the first House Speaker ever removed from the post in early October after eight Republicans, led by Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz, voted with Democrats to remove him. Gaetz cited broken promises McCarthy made to his initial detractors to win the job in January.

McCarthy won election to his California congressional seat in 2006. Though he retained that position after losing the Speaker's gavel, he must now fend off a second challenge to his continued political career, as David Giglio on Sunday filed the paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run for the seat, according to The Hill.

"I am excited to announce my campaign to defeat Kevin McCarthy in California’s 20th Congressional District. After years of being sold out to special interests, the people of the Central Valley deserve an America First Republican fighting for them in Washington and working alongside President Donald Trump to WAGE WAR against the corrupt uniparty!" Giglio's said on his campaign site.

Kevin, the majority of republicans think it would be a nifty idea for you to spend more time with your family.
Don’t you agree? We will name an Empty Chair in the House of Congress after you! Some have suggested using a decommissioned
Electric Chair. Isn’t that funny?

Maybe we could let him take his painting with the speaker’s gavel home with him as a consolation prize?

Good riddance.

McCarhy won with 63% of his district’s vote in 2018, 62% in 2020, 67% in 2022. It is yet to be seen how much of that is just a GOP vote and how much McCarthy is popular in the GOP locally.

Good luck to the Challenger.
If McCarthy does not resign after his current term ends in 24.
I hope this challenger forces retirement on McCarthy.

Since admitting he’s a failure and resigning in disgrace doesn’t seem to be happening...

A year too late. Everyone in his district knew he was in line to be speaker. Musta been proud of him but one can only wonder why. Whoever this challenger is he’s just capitalizing on the roadkill.

led by Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz, voted with Democrats to remove him.

It was the other way around. The Democrats voted WITH Gaetz to remove him. It was Gaetz that brought the motion for removal.

They don’t have party primaries in CA, anymore. It’s an all-party extravaganza. Meaning in order to win, the challenger to Kevin the Turd would have to make the top two runoff for the general election. If it was him vs. Kevin the Turd, the Demonrats in the district and the RINOs would vote for Kevin.

Ribit.....Yeah, Kali county by county is mostly red, it’s the cities. It’s always the big cities that make a state look bad. Still, with all that red, you folks sure field a stupid state government.
