I have an old Mossberg 88 12ga that I inherited from my sister. I ordered some ammo for it, it was delivered this morning... I just felt the need to have it at the ready.
I do not enjoy handling guns, I’m no John Wick here... but given the state of things it’s time to get familiar with them.
I resent having to spend money on this stuff... but what can you do.
Shotguns can be helpful.
One of my friends has a daughter who moved into a new place a few years ago. A fellow of “color” kept jumping over the fence and peeking into the windows. I had an extra 12-gauge pistol grip I gave her. We taught her how to load it, handle it and shoot it.
One night the fellow came back over, he jumped the fence to get into the back yard. He started going from window to window trying to look in. She had a girlfriend over and they waited for the guy by one window, and she put the end of the shotgun an inch away from the blinds. As the fellow was trying to look in the window the friend pulled the blind up quickly and the end of the barrel was about an inch away from the guys face. It was pointed right at his mouth. He took several steps back, peed his pants then ran to the back of the yard and jumped the fence. He never returned.

You can use sharp kitchen utensils, hammers, chainsaws, scredrivers, hammers etc... a firearm projects an object towards a target.
I guess it all depends on how far you wish to be from the target at the moment of dispatch.
Personally I would much rather enjoy expending my ammunition on meat for the freezer; but what can you do?
