Well. I recall that this was some kind of “peace festival”, and I have seen the attendees described as mostly young people, who were there to experience a “safe envelope for finding inner calm, peace, harmony”.
It does sound like Leftist peacenik-”peace at any price”, “we just need trust and not demonize them” gobbledeygook. That said, I know nothing beyond that.
And even if they did believe that, they sure didn’t deserve what they got. If any of them believed that, I doubt they do now. (though that woman who wished her captors “Shalom” seemed as if she might be the kind who wouldn’t learn that lesson, but...her husband was still held captive, so even she gets a break.)
