Iran- a near peer adversary of the sort the US hasn’t faced since WW2/ Korea.

I wouldn't call them that. The objective would be is to destroy their military capabilities. We can do that in 24 hours. We will destroy their air defense systems so we'll achieve air superiority. Then we can destroy all of the infrastructure that is needed to support their military.

The last time US air forces fought against an adversary with any type of air defense was in Vietnam- and didn’t fare too well- certainly sustained casualties that would be politically impossible in the present environment- Iran is a much more hardened foe than the North Vietnamese were. We should evaluate both our capabilities and those of our adversaries much more dispassionately. Iran is, of course, a bad actor, but it doesn’t really threaten the USA except in the context of our unapproved bases in Iraq and Syria which no voters or legislature has ever voted to extend indefinitely. Iran may be an existential threat to Israel- in which case they should handle it internally- we could sell them necessary weapons of course- good for our MIC if taxpayers don’t finance- but other than that, I just don’t see a compelling reason to sustain combat casualties that will at a minimum be in the thousands. Destroying Iranian combat capability in 24 hours may have been possible in the 1980’s but is a fever dream in the present day.
