When I was young, you could put a nativity scene in your yard during Christmas and expect it to be left in the same condition. For at least 25 years, nativity scenes have been placed behind plexiglass or otherwise protected from vandalism. But atheist neighbors would tell me you're crazy if you think there is a war against Christians. Live and let live is dead.

No one feels the need to protect them where I live. They are placed in the open same as they’ve always been.
