It is unbearable to think that I was friends with this person. But I was. I know this person. I knew her. She was not an antisemite. She was not a sadist.

Perhaps. Or perhaps she did a really good job of hiding it. Or you did a less than stellar job of detecting it.

Perhaps it was always lurking there, and her Master's Degree in satanic evil brought it out.
