At one time the United States had a huge merchant marine fleet. Regulations killed it. Maybe those regulations were needed. Regardless, our current merchant marine is just a shadow of its former self.
So how will we move the goods necessary for a new Pacific war? I guess we’ll have to lease what foreign freighters we can find.
Who is going to lease freightors for wartime convoy duty ?
Maybe the USA can buy them.
In the Battle of the Atlantic, the Allies had 3500 merchant ships sunk. The scale of a Pacific War against China would be larger, and over longer ocean distances.
