I think the idea is that if the 20-something hold outs agree to vote for Jordan, Gaetz and 6 others agree to no longer conference with them. That would leave Jordan with a more Establishment caucus to work with, but at least he’d be Speaker. Gaetz and company are counting on Jordan keeping his word on promises made, regardless of them no longer caucusing with the Republicans. And the Gaetz 7 would still have their vote in Congress, but their influence would be reduced.

I think this actually shows a willingness to sacrifice something personally, in order to help the institution, which is more than what is offered by any of the Jordan holdouts.
