Do universities have to comment all wars going on in the world?
“Do universities have to comment all wars going on in the world?”
Good point. There is no shortage of ignorant opinions from universities, actors, musicians and others. They seem compelled to have to offer their opinion for some reason.
When things happen that trigger leftists, student groups take to the streets with slogans and banners. It is then incumbent on the University to comment as to whether the Uni as a whole supports the demonstrators' cause.
Oberlin College's dean of students took sides with an “anti-racism” hate campaign a few years ago against a family-owned bakery that tried to stop a black student from stealing from them. Amazingly, a jury penalized Oberlin millions of dollars (which Oberlin continued to sue to try to avoid paying).
The Jewish students at Penn may have standing to sue the Penn admin if any of them suffered hate speech or other discrimination from the Hamas supporters on campus; I don't know; but Penn has plenty of Jewish students, a famous law school, and plenty of lawyer alumni. I would encourage them to look into it. But the wheels of justice grind slowly.
That's why alumni withholding is a great idea. I would encourage any Penn alumni to follow Huntsman's lead. And Huntsman is, IIRC, not Jewish but Mormon.
