It may get ugly, but Israel is Justified invading Gaza. There is no other way than to entirely conquer Gaza by ground troops. It may result in many Israeli army deaths, but it is analogous to 1968 when the United States and South Vietnam cleared out Hue in urban siege warfare. Any use of massive aerial bombardment would only make Gaza more difficult to conquer. German artillery and aircraft turned Stalingrad into rubble, but it actually assisted the Soviets in defending the city.

One fear I have is it could trigger uprisings in other Arab countries, like Egypt.

I’m not saying it isn’t justified. Gaza will be prepared.
IEDs, RPGs, and CQB will be all over.
I think Gaza is one of the most densely populated areas on Earth.
Way more Gazans(is that a word) will die, but crazy doesn’t care.

Just for the sake of discussion, Hue was not vertical and had large, open streets. Further, the PAVN were not adept urban fighters and their battle kits weren’t urban oriented. Almost all the total opposite of the situation of Gaza… if I remember correctly there were only about 10k PAVN/VC in Hue…. Who knows how many ‘militants’ IDF is facing in Gaza? If it’s total war you can expect everyone to fight for their lives. So maybe 50k out of the 2 million? Who knows.

All that said, with the rapidly progressed urban battle tactics of the last several years, I’m sure the incursion will render very high casualty counts on both sides.
