You may be right, I am extrapolating from that cohort's voting and political preferences here in the U.S., but I don't understand why the largest sample size (i.e. Jews living in America) would not be representative of those living in Israell.

My understanding of Israel's politics up until fairly recently is that it has been dominated by leftists such as Mapai, and Netanyahu's party is a fairly recent aberration, much like the Republicans and Democrats, here with Israel's left having a stranglehold over academia and popular culture.

So what am I getting wrong?

Almost 90% of Americans Jews are Ashkenazi (Jews from Central and Eastern Europe) and dominated by the less religious cohort from the Jews who came to American from 1880-1923. Israel is about 45% Ashkenazi. Over a quarter of these (12% of Israel Jews) are Jews who came from the former Soviet Union form 1970s onward and and their children and grandchildren, tending to be security hawks, but social moderates. This actually corresponds to almost 20% of American Jews. About 9% of Israeli Jews are Ashkenazi Haredim (Ultra Orthodox and Chasidic) which is actually similar to the US. So basically, the liberal leaning Jews in the US you are thinking of are 61% in the US but only a quarter of Israeli Jews. Israel has a much more diverse population of Jews than in the US. Most Israeli Jews come from the Middle East and are religiously traditional. There are Jewish communities in Israel from Western Europe, Ethiopia, the Caucus mountains, and India too.

Because they had collaborated with the British and helped choose which Jews could come to Israel, the Left did dominate Israel, but only from 1947-1977. The Likud party of Netanyahu has been in the governing coalition for 37 of the last 46 years. And 4 of the other 9 years, the Left was dependent on factions that split from the right to gain power, although sometimes the Likud needed parties on the left or center-left. Moreover since 1993, the Labour party in Israel largely dropped socialism. The communist party in Israel is mostly Arab.
Between different demographics and religiousity, and the reality of running a country often at war rather than white collar jobs, Israeli Jews are saner than Americans. The problem is that Israel is only about 75% Jewish and left tok over the administrative and security states and Judiciary in the fist 30 years.

Why should Israelis be shocked of the Muslim Arab’s murderous bloodlust for Jewish lives? Do they forget so quickly? The Arabs’ desire to exterminate Jews from The Land has never changed. No matter how much good Israel does for the Arabs, it is always returned with some kind of irrational hatred toward Jews.

Here’s just a small list the conflicts Israel has been involved in to defend themselves from the Arabs.

Will the Jews ever get the testicular fortitude to deal the Arabs in a way that will forever deter them from attacking Israel? Not that I can see at this time.
