New York abolished slavery two centuries ago. Thousands of New York soldiers died in a war to free the slaves. A majority of the white population of the state had forbears that arrived after 1865: almost all the Italians ad East Europeans, most of the Jews, some of the Irish and the Germans. The last former slave died about 60 years ago. In the first half of the last century, hundreds of thousands of black moved to New York and other Northern states to escape poverty and Jim Crow laws in the South.
Talk of reparations is nothing less than a leftist plot to divide people by race in order to destroy America.
