Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D) said Tuesday she doesn’t “understand” Americans who support Russian President Vladimir Putin in his war against Ukraine.
“I don’t understand any American siding with Putin, but we’ve seen it and we’ve heard it and we have to fight against it,” Clinton said in an interview with PBS NewsHour’s Geoff Bennett.
Clinton was asked by Bennett about a “growing” divide in American politics over funding and support for Ukraine in their fight against Russia and how she thinks the Russian leader views it. She said she thinks Putin is “thrilled” about this divide.

And what is the American vital interest in Ukraine? I know we are on the side of Ukraine, because Russia invaded and Putin is the bad guy and all that. But what is the American interest there?
I don’t understand some of these debates sometimes. Can’t we say we oppose invasions of nations, while at the same time, say we have enough deficits and problems at home, that we don’t see every conflict in the world as something America needs to be involved in?

I don’t understand it either. I can understand not wanting US troops to be sent there, or even putting some limit on the amount of aid given. But I don’t understand anyone opposing sanctions against Russia for its invasion.
