Matt Gaetz burns down the Republican House

If you’re kicking yourself for missing the historic moment of a House speaker’s ouster Tuesday because you had to work or get your kids from school, relax: We watched, and all it boiled down to was hot air — sound and fury, signifying nothing except cynical nihilism and likely weeks of chaotic paralysis.

Oh, Rep. Matt Gaetz and his fellow rebels talked plenty about high principle and the crisis of the Republic, but all they were really doing was burning down the House, or at least the House Republican majority.

Professed conservative hardliner Gaetz got the chaos he wanted, ironically thanks to the unanimous support of House Democrats, who joined the tiny GOP Suicide Squad...

Dems, of course, are reveling in the dysfunctional circus — and will presumably try to spin it out for as long as possible...

No one knows what comes next: The rebels have no candidate for speaker, let alone a plan for keeping the party’s most moderate members from turning to the Democrats in desperation for a return to regular order.

Gaetz and his allies didn’t take a bold stand for anything but self-indulgent nihilism — they were mad at how things have been going, so they blew everything up.

The reality remains that the Dems control the White House and the Senate, so the Republicans in Congress are unable to get much done, let alone realize the demands knocking about in Gaetz’s wildest dreams.

This arson no doubt feels good, like you’ve at last done something — just like punching a wall.

Then your hand starts to hurt and you realize that that’s all you’ve achieved...

Also up in the air: What Republican would even want the speaker’s job, so long as it means being held hostage by Gaetz and his crew?

Indeed! Paul Ryan will be seething for a very very long time over this. I'm quite content knowing this.

Post Editorial Board...so much gaslighting...so little time. People who try and control the narrative betray themselves especially when it gets this blatant.

The hell with the status quo. That's how we got to where we are, and we are already so screwed there's no coming back from it.

We are still perma screwed but at least they can't keep screwing us worse.

All of DC needs to burn. Screw them back.

—”Why is it Chaos? The Speaker of the House has changed many times,”

Sadly, soon it will be changed to Speaker Hakeem Jeffries.

Nothing good in that for any conservative.

Gaetz may have gained a few followers on the road to perdition.

I think based on McCarthy's comment last night and McHenry's action there was a deal in place to keep him in place

If so, that deal fell apart. The best way the Democrats could have kept McCarthy in without looking like they were voting for a Republican would be for the entire caucus to abstain from voting.

I also think this shows Pelosi has lost her influence in the caucus. Interesting she was not there to vote to save her "friend"

Pelosi is first and foremost a political creature. You know all the grief we give Gingrich for his couch sitting photo with her, she'd get the same or worse from her side if she was seen as publicly supporting McCarthy.

Also interesting the number of R's that did not vote on the measure. Wonder is there were really more than 8 "defections" with only those 8 willing to stick their necks out and vote.

There's 435 members of Congress, you're going to have some absences. I think every "not voting" was an absence for legit reasons. For example, Rep. Luna just had a baby.

What happened to the jan 6 videos we were all going to have access to?

why the hell do we have republican political prisoners sitting in jail for years even though we control congress? You think Pelosi would put up with that if it were blm protesters under a trump admin? Hell, she’d shutdown govt funding until they were released...rightfully so.

How’s that 87000 IRS agent cancellation working?

The Biden corruption should be a slam dunk....why isn’t it? Where are the subpoenas for Hunter? Would Pelosi not subpoena Don jr. if things were reversed?

I’m going to puke if I hear, “power of the purse strings” again. McCarthy was ousted because he refused to use all tools at his disposal to fight the marxist takeover of this country. You want to blow things up? Defund the justice department until all Jan6 captives are guaranteed a fair review and are released until that happens. What are they afraid of? The heads of the media, dems, and establishment would explode....good....it would force light on everything that has been going on.

Quite frankly we don’t need a speaker who talks about optimism and pats himself on the back because he secured new carpet for a house that is burning down.
His presser yesterday was sickening. He spoke more highly of Pelosi then he did of his party colleagues. The self-righteous tone falls deaf, especially on the ears of constituents who are now political prisoners.

Some things need to be figuratively “burned down” or the cannot be peacefully replaced.

The Murdoch oracle speaks: “No one knows what comes next: The rebels have no candidate for speaker, let alone a plan for keeping the party’s most moderate members from turning to the Democrats in desperation for a return to regular order.”
And there you have it. An admission by a reported conservative newspaper that in fact many (if not most) Republicans are squishes.

If the Weazel D1cks select another RINO then I hope Gaetz gives them the zot too.

I listened to Jim Jordan on Real America’s Voice this morning. When asked, he didn’t say no. He evaded and said the conference would decide who the next Speaker would be. He said this every time the Host asked if he would run.

I think he’ll take over. I hope and pray he’s not just another Trey Gowdy.

I don’t hate the guy, I just won’t feel sorry for him or cut him any slack. He’s a big boy. I still think the reality is that he was banking on enough demonkkraps to save him on the CR and his past actions / comity in support of them. Think they would help him out without additional concessions? He made the wrong decision apparently, that was political suicide.

As far as the “reality” and make-up of the party and being in leadership is a “no-win” situation. It is most often that way. Leadership means lead, there is give and take, and the Biden-district GOPers can’t always get their way either. Too often the conservatives have gotten zero, but they were the faction always giving in “for the good of the party”. Some finally got elected like Gaetz and they are keeping their campaign promises to their constituents not to fold and do what the RINOs tell them. Who can blame them. The Uniparty does not like them. Too bad.
