Matt Gaetz: I Had Donald Trump's Blessing to Oust Kevin McCarthy From Speakership
RedState ^ | October 3, 2023 | Bob Hoge

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was successful Tuesday in his quest to oust Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the Speaker of the House position, and now he’s saying he had former president Donald Trump’s blessing.

Advertisement McCarthy was voted out of the job by a 216-210 tally, and for now, the House is left with Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) as the Speaker Pro Tem. An election will be held to determine the next official speaker, and McCarthy has already come out and said he won't be in the running.

My colleague Duke wondered the other day in his article whether Gaetz would proceed with such a dramatic plan without Trump’s approval. We have our answer:

'I have spoken to President Trump over the last several days,' Gaetz told reporters on the steps of the Capitol after the vote. 'I would say that my conversations with the former president leave me with great confidence that I'm doing the right thing.'

McCarthy became the first speaker in American history to be outed from his job in Tuesday's vote that saw eight members of his own party sink him. Now Republicans will have to deal with the fallout. That not only includes electing a new speaker but dealing with the bloodbath that remains of their party.

Let's under McCarthy 1) we kept getting endless Ukraine proxy war funding 2) still have the 87,000 IRS agents that he and other Republicans promised to get rid of 3) Full funding for the weaponized DOJ and FBI 4) Record high budgets with a national debt now at $32 trillion.

Yet, you want us to believe McCarthy was doing a swell job?

“Name one thing Jordan has done.”

Nothing of consequence. He’s a big talker. He has no backbone. I like Andy Biggs. And Gaetz would be a real hardass, too.

FWIK McCarthy made a secret deal with democrats to fund Ukraine war. And he gave in to too many demands from the Rats.

************

I hate our Ukrainian policy.... It’s stupid & financially destructive to the interests of the United States.
However many Republicans & conservatives are “all in” on countering Russia.

What do the American people think about Ukraine after being bombarded with almost two years of Anglo-American propaganda?

Answer: They’re pro Ukraine.

As far as the budget, its been a joke since Gingrich was Speaker.

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump issued a full-throated endorsement of House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday morning, hours before Republicans planned to return to the floor to try again to elect a speaker.

You're getting wrong. It's not the various factions of the GOP causing the civil war within the GOP. It's the fact the establishment is at war with its MAGA base.

There are several things the establishment of both parties are totally okay with -- illegal immigration, using our foreign policy to make money for themselves, donors and defense industry, massive deficit spending and using Deep State to try to destroy Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.

The GOP civil war is about whether or not we're going to have party that represents its base and its chosen candidate.

I wonder how many GOP would Vote for Trump for Speaker. That would be fun to watch.

Well said! It was Trump who brought in the GOP majority with his endorsements. The old crew squandered that majority.

Speak plainly. Don’t give me this metaphor crap. Who knows if this was such a great idea. People saying he got voted out because he was for the war in Ukraine but so are the Dems. Makes no sense. It remains to be seen how good of a move this is. Cheer when you see results worth cheering for.

Kevin McCarthy’s roommate for years was and maybe still is, the liberal, gay, Dem pollster Frank Luntz. You never hear of McCarthy flying home to CA to spend time with his wife. What’s up with that? Is McCarthy gay and sleeping with the enemy (Frank Luntz)? Odd bedfellows, pardon the pun.

(reference to Proverbs 22:13)

No-one knows the future, or what the unintended consequences will be, so the best policy is to play it straight with no tricks, do the right thing, and accept the consequences.

McCarthy deserved to be vacated for his frequent lies, betrayals, and broken promises.

The GOPe Swamp always catastrophizes to gatekeep any real action and just keep going with the same failed crap as the past 30 years.

That is weird, but I just can believe that anyone would be Frank Luntz boyfriend unless he was being paid.

Then McCarthy did a lousy job.

You are playing in the wrong league. Trump doesn’t waste potential allies, if he thought there was any chance he could work w/ McCarthy to advance MAGA priorities and McCarthy seemed likely to win, nothing to lose and potential gain by endorsing.
