Nigel Farage leaves door open to re-joining Tories after election

Report from the Conservative Party annual conference/convention

Nigel Farage has been welcomed with open arms by many Conservatives in Manchester - leading some to wonder if he could re-join the party after decades of campaigning against it.

On Sunday night, the former UKIP and Brexit Party leader was cheered to the rafters at a gala dinner for grassroots Conservatives, after Priti Patel hailed his role in delivering Brexit - and helping Boris Johnson win the 2019 general election by standing candidates down.

Then he received a hero's welcome from right wing Tories' at Liz Truss's conference fringe event on Monday. Footage of him partying with Ms Patel later that night has been widely shared on social media.

Having observed Farage-mania at close quarters at this year's conference, Tory commentator Tim Montgomerie said: "I'm convinced party members would choose him as leader if they could."

This is the first Tory conference Mr Farage has attended since 1988. He was "utterly barred" from the annual gatherings when he was a leading light in UKIP, he says, although he often used to turn up anyway.

On one memorable occasion in Manchester he rolled up to the security gates in an armoured personnel carrier, to show he was "parking his tanks on the Tories' lawn".

"Farage-mania!"

They would have to give him a safe district which is no bother (lots of those). He'd then get into Parliament and could be leader / PM..

It's merely a means to an end kind of like joining the GOP. He has to be in one of the two main parties.

If that doesn’t work, and Trump isn’t nominated for the role, maybe he can be speaker.

There are no big personalities in the Conservative Party. No real leaders or Trump like figures.

Look at the state of Rishi Sunak and he’s the best they can come up with!

I sense an “in” for Farage here if he wants it...

I like Nigel, but I wish he would speak up for his colleagues that are being canceled at GBNews.

Nigel Farage can be speaker just like that woman from Maryland can be a senator from california.

The problem is, due to the chain of command with the Speaaker in line for Prez, my buddy Nigel isn’t qualified since he’s a Brit. It would be fun to watch though. The guy is smart and a bulldog. Several times, he told the EU to shove it during the Brexit ordeal.
