Confirmed: Kevin McCarthy Won't Run for House Speaker
Townhall ^ | 10/3/23 | Matt Vespa

Posted on 10/03/2023 4:12:02 PM PDT by cotton1706

It’s confirmed. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), booted as the Speaker of the House of Representatives today, will not run again for his former office. The gavel will be passed onto someone who can obtain 218 votes at some point within the next few days without going multiple rounds with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and his posse.

“Gaetz push to out McCarthy with ZERO follow up plan, is the most irresponsible political move.”

That is now a major talking point I have heard screamed over the airwaves in the last few hours. Join that to the dog that caught the car. That one is getting a lot of play.

I don’t have any connections to the House or Gaetz, but I bet I know what the follow up plan he has in mind is — select a new Speaker.

See, that is not hard to do; he even mentioned it yesterday.

There is actually no rule that the Speaker has to be elected soon.

No. He’ll stay congressman from California still collecting speaker pay forever.

8 patriots have removed a Speaker who refused to use his power to stop an open border and uncontrolled spending, both fatal threats to the Republic. McCarthy gave away the store when he agreed to remove the budget cap until Jan 2025.

Mace trashed Trump after J6.

Yeah, she’s a real mixed bag. Her personality is very off-putting to me, a typical arrogant abrasive “girl boss” type, and really trashy, too, considering her crass comments in front of the attendees at the national prayer breakfast. She’s also pro-abortion.

But on some issues, she’s on the right side, and her bullying personality becomes somewhat of an asset at those times. I don’t like her personally, and think her self-serving positions on “social issues” make her more of a Libertarian than a Republican, but she is useful at times.

The House can resume normal operations under the Speaker Pro Tem. There is no requirement to elect a new speaker right away

So if a Speaker does not have to be a member of Congress, wouldnt that give the house an extra vote?

🙄 So I’m guessing a healthy portion of morons here think this is a good thing. How have we (conservatives) devolved so much that some amongst us would rather have Nancy Pelosi in the speakers chair. I could understand voting him out if you had a viable majority in the house that would elect a true conservative. What is the point in kicking McCarthy out if there’s noone currently to his right that could garner a majority of votes. How is having the Democrats controlling both houses of Congress & the Presidency supposed to be a good thing. Find a viable conservative that has the votes dumbasses!@ 🙄

“I am listening to his speech. He sure is a cocky SOB. Defiant to the end.”

He just basically called Gaetz a liar. Projecting RINO (leftie), per usual.

McCarthy has already told his GOP Conference he is not going to run for
Speaker again. Do you he is lying again?
There will be another Speaker, hopefully one that keeps his promises to
His own Conference.

He appeared bitter, lying, and damaging the party...but, I agree he will probably be re-elected...

Good for Joe. Not because I like him but because he’s a good poker player.

Well, the only way we get Nancy Pelosi is if some Republicans vote for her.

“How about Byron Donalds?”

I wish. That would be a really smart move. He is really good at smacking down the media narratives. Excellent under pressure from what I have seen.

People should be listening to him now. He let his guard down and is showing us how nasty he really is.

McCarthy needs to join the rest of his Troika and retire to lobbying as total Rhinos.

Yeah, she’s a real mixed bag.

Seems like it. But I'm more surprised that she voted to get rid of McCarthy and not Boebert and MTG.

“Can someone confirm to me whether border security was in the bill that got signed last week?”

That is another insanity that Levin was ranting about. Republicans are trying, as it were, to take ownership of Biden’s illegal invasion.

Look, the infrasturcture and laws that govern the border are more than sufficient to stop the invasion. It is Biden who is defying the law, and whatever bill the Repbublicans happen to squeeze through will be ignored by him.
