Confirmed: Kevin McCarthy Won't Run for House Speaker
Townhall ^ | 10/3/23 | Matt Vespa

Posted on 10/03/2023 4:12:02 PM PDT by cotton1706

It’s confirmed. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), booted as the Speaker of the House of Representatives today, will not run again for his former office. The gavel will be passed onto someone who can obtain 218 votes at some point within the next few days without going multiple rounds with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and his posse.

It does us no good to elect her. It’ll just replace McCarthy with McCarthy in a skirt. Actually, Mace wears pants, trying to be the sun her dad didn’t have. Pro abort and pro money to Ukraine. And she isn’t very bright innately.
We need a masculine man there, not a girl boss.

Maybe the establishment needs to hold their nose and vote for a super MAGA conservative for once. That’s what we are always told we have to do. Now it’s their turn.

How is it a good thing to keep a liar and a man that breaks his word in charge?
What kind of a message does it send?
That is the point of kicking him out, accountability and a chance to get a speaker who would use his power for America not sell it to Biden for unknown considerations.

So 200+ Redumblicans essentially voted for business as usual, Hooray!

Right, McCarthy proposed a temporary spending bill that would have cut spending and secured the border, but idiots like Gaetz opposed it

It appeared evident even before the vote that the stopgap bill was bound to fail, as several hard-right Republicans had declared that they would not back a temporary spending bill, known as a continuing resolution, under any circumstances. And the measure — which would slash spending and impose severe immigration restrictions — never had a chance of preventing a shutdown, since it was regarded as a nonstarter in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

The size of the group of defectors was striking, reflecting both Mr. McCarthy’s weak hold on his conference and the influence of the far right in the House. The bill failed by a vote of 232-198, with 21 Republicans joining all Democrats to oppose it.

“Every time we vote for a continuing resolution, we make no changes in policy or spending,” said Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida, who led the charge against Mr. McCarthy’s funding plan. “It’s a vote to continue the status quo.”

What a complete bunch of idiots.

They have no plan and no idea what the hell is going on. Sort of like Biden.

Good question.

It's because the election of SOTH involves the entire House, Dems included, and would not be done until 2024 (absent a SOTH removal).

As I understand it, Mister Gaetz forces a new election before the terms expire. Corrections invited.

That said, whomever runs against Mister Gaetz in the forthcoming primary will receive a contribution from me and my fam.

Ok so Jim Jordan doesn’t want the job. It might make sense for him to see the writing on the wall and get out. There’s Sherrod Brown’s senate seat that needs a top-tier nominee on our side. We take the seat and it would pretty much guarantee we take back the senate. Leave behind the food fights.

Are Gaetz & Mace having an affair? Or, just a rumor?

“Why should he care. He keeps the speaker pay…”

____________

I’m sure McCarthy was carrying the one-world government water for the Speaker’s pay.

Everyone but 8 wanted to keep McCarthy. I agree with your preferences, if that person can get the votes that would be great. I'd like to see some quick polls. I think more approve than media and McCarthy-ites know.

Yup. He’s a backstabber.

Bad precedent. There is no GOP majority when any unhappy members just band together with Democrats. Willie Brown controlled the California legislature for years by playing off disunity within the Republican “opposition”.

“Does the new speaker have to be somebody currently in Congress?”

Actually, no.
