Now-former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was stripped of his gavel on Tuesday afternoon via roll-call vote on Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL) motion to vacate the chair, pursuant to rules agreed to by McCarthy in order to clinch victory in his drawn-out race to become speaker in January.

By a vote of 216 to 210, the historic motion prevailed as presiding Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) declared "the resolution is adopted...the office of Speaker of the House of the United States House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant."

The Republicans joining Gaetz in his motion to vacate were Reps. Biggs (AZ), Buck (CO), Burchett (TN), Crane (AZ), Good (VA), Mace (SC), Rosendale (MT

They were “moderate” because that’s what the public wanted - continuation of FDR’s New Deal, i.e. socialism lite! Any Republican who even hinted at rolling back the New Deal got no where! Does Barry Goldwater ring a bell? The best you were going to get was a “sort-of-we-can-manage-it-better-with-conservative-principles” or as my late father describes “Me To-ism “.

The public wanted “socialist magic” how can a GOP politician say no if he wanted a career in politics. It’s still that way!

Not a bad idea, but I’m guessing the dems and RINOS have something up their sleeves.

Sure, McCarthy sucked donkey balls, but will the coming weeks of negative media really worth this political execution of one of your own?

Yes.

If they are going to surrender to the Democrats on all major topics, they are not one of ours at all. There is no loss to us in ejecting them from their positions.

And then, there is the fact that almost nothing has changed since January.

Because they are not going to vote for a Republican for Speaker.

No the House cannot work until a New Speaker in elected 1st in a new Congress. Since that was done in Jan 2022, the Speaker Pro Tem, Patrick McHenry from NC, will fill the role until the GOP decides to elect a new Speaker.

So it up to the new guy to decide what happens next

it may be that liberal republicans, in order to punish Gaetz, will collude with the Dems and put in a liberal Republican, like they do every session in Texas. I’d wager there are ten Republicans dying to pick a speaker alongside the Dems.

The way I see it, the Democrats get much of what they want because the Republicans give them cover.

Let’s take away that cover and see what happens, when the Rats now own it all.

Watch for RINOs to get revenge by threatening to vote for a Democrat speaker unless they get another RINO.

These bastards deserve bad optics. My former rep Tom Emmer hitched his wagon to loser McCarthy and I’m glad he just got waxed.

“John Fetterman is the honest pick to run the freakshow in DC.”

As the Speaker of House does not have to be in the House of Represenetives nor does the Speaker have to be able to speak.

Fetterman is qualified and I hereby nominate him.

He/she could be afraid of shutting down the government but upset that he/she was forced into a last minute up or down vote to keep the government open. Fairly, the process is BS.

Gaetz is the dog that finally caught a car.

Listening to him now..he has no clue what is going to happen now.

As long as the worthless bags of crap that infest our Congress are feeling pain, more power to him. Keep shaking the tree, I say. The worst possible outcome these days is the status quo

Exactly.

Have sympathy for McCarthy- he has an ungovernable house to run with a tiny majority and a fractured and divided group of Republicans - many of whom are real corrupt uni party losers who need to be primaried out of office

They outnumber the more conservative wing and they are able to block any meaningful actions by McCarthy

The country is like a hijacked airliner with a terrorist at the controls bent on crashing the airplane. The pilot is fighting for the controls but the co pilot is holding him back
