I remember my grandmother bought fabric to sew clothing for the family at five and dime type stores in the 1950’s and 60’s.

Same here ('60s and early '70s). We had Woolworth, Pilgrim Mills, Bluestones and WT Grant. Most boring place a five year old boy can be. At least Bluestones had lollipops.

My wife misses Hancock, and claims that the quality of fabric at Jo-Anne is horrible. Here in Phoenix we have 35th Avenue Sew-Vac, and that has been okay.
