Yes, but the people who go to Fire Island are valuable constituents of Chucky. They pay a lot of property taxes too on that ocean front property. Gay guys also have a lot of disposable income in comparison to heterosexual couples. They are DINKS(Double Income No Kids).
These are the same geniuses that are all about “the science”. If they had a modicum of an understanding about science they would know that barrier islands and shoreline constant erode and shift due to tides and storms. They would also know that in places where man intervenes that shorelines have more problems. Just compare the NJ coast to the NC coast.

The history of the South Shore of Long Island, since human habitation, is one of constant erosion. West to East currents alongside the Gulf Stream scour those beaches and also. eventually, remodel them with new sand.
Back when people were normal. rock jetties were built in many places to preserve beaches.
That was the Before Time. Now, jetties are an offense to Gaia, so the beaches are washing away.
It’s OK, though, because the fresh water under Long Island is being consumed at a great rate, and salt water infiltration will require evacuation of Nassau and Suffolk counties before too long.
Do what Galveston did. 25 miles of it.
