Recently Trump said he had just a couple hundred miles of wall to finish. Seriously? Over 2,000 miles of border, around 500 miles of new and replaced border barrier, and he now only proposes to add a couple hundred miles, leaving around 1,200 miles unsecured?
I'm looking for his quote, it was around the time of the first presidential debate if I recall correctly. I remember being surprised at the low number and the disinterest it raised at the time.

I remember being surprised at the low number and the disinterest it raised at the time. Because the disinformation media is in his pocket right now. They want to ensure that he gets the nomination because they see him as the best chance to guarantee a Biden win and Democrat wins down ballot.
They may well be wrong, but that's how they see it, so they're trying to ensure that it happens.
It's similar to what they did to McCain. Remember how they did nothing but praise him when he ran in the primaries, then as soon as he was nominated, they pulled out al the crap (some true, some not) that they'd been sitting on?
Did the same with Romney.

Have you ever been to the border?
I have.
Most of those 1,200 miles don’t need a fence because they’re impassable. Period.
President Trump put the barrier where the Border Patrol said they needed it. Like a good commander he listened to the boots on the ground and let THEM prioritize the sections to receive new barriers. Even then he had to fight everyone, including the stupid party, to get done what he did.

What you have to understand is that there was more than just "The Wall" to Trump's border control strategy, there was effort to create a full spectrum plan to make it too much of an ordeal for invaders to be comfortable and stick around. And about partway through his administration it did bear fruit, I saw that myself. Foreigners vanished from the stores, workers in various crafts or services were now black, white or American Latinos, housing became more available in some markets. Rather funny to see former invaders griping about it across social media too - suitable for printing out & framing. After the reign of FJB began, here we are, like in the first sentence in your post, once again wading through people in stores speaking foreign languages, not only Spanish or Portuguese but now with addition of Eastern European dialects too. The difference between now than from then besides Trump being out of office is that there is a whole different level of chaos to contend with, not just domestically, but across the entire world. I do not see how one little US domestic election is going to reset all of that since at the speed of how things are imploding or exploding, whichever term that fits, I'm expecting a whole different world order to exist by the time that rolls around. At this point my plans are to anticipate and survive what's coming. You should do the same.
