Democrats Join McCarthy In Celebrating Budget Stopgap—And Taunting MAGA Wing

In a post on X, progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) called the bill a “win-win” for allowing federal employees to continue to receive paychecks, and for riling far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who she says “threw a tantrum.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) also celebrated the vote, saying “all extreme right-wing policies have been removed” from it, arguing in a post that “MAGA Republicans have surrendered.”

That’s concerning if so. Out of the frying pan and then right back into the fire

I agree. Ukraine is a distraction. So how do we build a wall? Joe Biden will just veto it even if we get it passed through Congress.

Trump has incredible courage to keep fighting as he is, even his enemies and the corrupt Swamp has had to admit that now. He hasn’t been perfect, he’s been duped and drawn in at times and made mistakes, there’s no way to avoid that. The corruption in American institutions has become so entrenched and deep that it would be impossible for Trump to bat a perfect percentage with all the calls he’s making and things he’s doing. He got duped by Mccarthy but then so did the others, and with the information available then, there just wasn’t any way for Trump to know and we wanted to consolidate support to start the investigations of the Biden’s criminal activities. It was in imperfect solution but what he had at that time.

It’s only with retrospect that we know how deep Mccarthy’s treachery and corruption goes. Only with his debt ceiling and now his even worse budget surrender it’s become clear that Mccarthy is just a shill for the cheap labor lobby dedicated to back-stabbing border security and other conservative priorities anyway he can. And so it’s only now that it’s clear that he needs to go.

“Above all that’s border security, THAT is what Mccarthy was sent to negotiate and fight with Jeffries, Schumer, Biden and the other Demonrats about. That is where he had to stand tall and not flinch until he got concessions. “

McCarthy is a GOPe cheap labor Swamp Man. He will never do anything on the border.

If even one quarter of that Caucus is genuine on securing the border, I would be surprised.

It’s true we couldn’t build an actual wall that would stop this, but if Mccarthy had even a bit of a spine he could at least fight for actual border security steps. That might be incremental but would still make a huge difference, and as part of the budget bill it’s not something Biden would veto because he and the Demonrats would be turning down too many other things. It’s frustrating that the wall is so difficult to bring in practice, but it’s not the only way to protect our border. At the very least we need to have more aggressive and effective controls and a return to a detainment in Mexico and other countries policy.

Mccarthy might not have been able to get all of that, but he could have gotten less some of that to help stem the scale of the massive invasion hitting us right now. Instead, Mccarthy failed to move the needle at all on that, because he didn’t even bother to fight for border security at all. Not one dollar in there to do anything about the literal invasion we’re facing right now, making the streets of even small towns unsafe and infesting our school cafeterias and playgrounds with fentanyl and meth to poison our kids. That was an unbelievably pitiful and unforgivable surrender on the single most important issue for America’s survival right now, by a bribed cheap labor lobby shill whose been masquerading as the leader of a party that’s supposed to stand up for conservative goals.

At the very least Mccarthy should have pushed hard for inclusion of some border security improvements in the stopgap budget funding bill, rather than making such a fuss about Ukraine (that’s getting funded anyway) or any other sideshow issues that aren’t even barely relevant to the most urgent and serious issues for America’s very survival right now. Especially the border, and the outrageous over-spending driving us into insolvency, above all with the Biden’s corruption, the kangaroo courts and his new Lois Lerner goon squad of tax collectors, funded explicitly to go after conservative individuals and businesses. All to get us to pay for our own replacement as the invasion continues with thousands of criminals, thugs and cartel traffickers pouring over the border every day. He only mentioned Ukraine as a way to cope and distract from the fact that Mccarthy failed the conservative base and the American people on the most critical issues we do have to deal with.

He needs to be ignored here and his fundamental failure called out. Because above all, Mccarthy needs to go. The stopgap won’t even fund a month based on the swelling deficits and debt based on what the budget guy was saying just a couple hours ago. And we need a real leader to fight our fight when the fight starts up again on the budget within the next two weeks.

You're right. Ukraine was sucking up all the space. All we had to do was to tell Zelensky to submit a plan to the Pentagon on winning the war and we'll call it a day.

I agree that border security is our #1 issue right now. It's anarchy right now.

Oh well. We'll just have to keep busing migrants to NYC so Eric Adams will continue to plead for help. He is getting the attention of the media so that's good.

Adams ironically is certainly helping draw attention to the invasion crisis. Unfortunately the reality is, only a tiny tiny fraction of the massive swarm of illegals are winding up in New York. The most of them are still pouring into Texas or Arizona and staying there, or boating into Florida, pouring nearby into Oklahoma, Kansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana or for some reason, the Carolinas have been getting hit esp hard. Texas and Oklahoma are being very badly overrun and that’s where the main invasion is taking place, but the media just doesn’t care, the suffering in those areas is far worse than New York it barely gets any media attention. People aren’t safe in their homes or schools anymore. Mccarthy committed a huge betrayal by surrendering and not even putting up a fight on something so urgent.

The same here. The cheap labor lobby has been the death of the conservative movement and the Republican Party in the US. They basically hijacked the values of traditional, based conservatism and replaced with the false conservatism of cheap labor and corporate and big business bribery. And they lied and broke promises everywhere. Even Reagan, as smart as he was to trust and verify, was tricked with amnesty in 1986, he thought the Demonrats the cheap labor shills among the RINO’s, neocons and Big Business would be true to their word and honor the employ everify policies after the amnesty. But they lied and tricked him, and the mass immigration from that amnesty is a big part of the mess we’re facing now, even from too much legal immigration. And now the hordes of illegals, criminals and cartel pushers flooding in right now. It’s ruining and bankrupting our nation, and Mccarthy the pitiful coward didn’t even put up a fight to improve security on it. He and the rest of the GOPe truly are bought and paid for, they don’t deserve a single conservative vote so long as these traitors are in power and back-stabbing everything conservatives actually try to do.

The Biden Administration wants the migrants in all of the red states so they’ll flip to blue eventually. But if NYC gets overwhelmed, it’ll force Democrat politicians from the blue states to do something about it.

True - but they won’t let us secede without a fight, so it’s war either way.

There is some selective memory on Reagan here, unfortunately.

Here he is on illegal immigration in the 1980 primary campaign, where he is for open borders and arguably more liberal than George H W Bush.

‘It is a surrender’: Why McCarthy reversed with his survival uncertain

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/09/30/kevin-mccarthy-government-shutdown-deal-00119290

When he walked into the Capitol on Saturday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy knew exactly what he’d do to stave off a shutdown: Call up a bill that abandoned the border policy and spending cuts he’d preached for weeks.

McCarthy’s move marked an abrupt shift after spending most of the year trying to placate all corners of his party — including a dozen-plus hardliners who have made it next to impossible for him to maneuver anything onto the floor. After the vote, McCarthy all but taunted his critics to come after his gavel if they wanted to.

And their first chance to do that will be Monday night. Multiple House conservatives confirmed in interviews they will begin seriously mulling whether they will try to seize McCarthy’s gavel in the coming days.

“I think it is a surrender,” said Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), one of multiple conservatives who warned McCarthy not to accept Democratic help to avoid a shutdown.

In the end, the 45-day funding patch that is on track to keep the government open passed with more Democratic than GOP votes, in a repeat of the spring debt vote that first inflamed McCarthy’s opponents.

The bill was finished just before midnight on Friday. But McCarthy didn’t unveil his plans to take up the bill until almost 11 hours later, after a choreographed parade of Republicans took the mic during a private 90-minute meeting to argue for exactly his proposal.

Dozens of conservatives ended up voting against the bill, which gave in on their two biggest priorities — spending cuts beyond McCarthy’s spring debt deal and hard-right border policies. Still, McCarthy wanted the groundswell of support for it to look like an organic move by his members, rather an order down from leadership.

Mere hours later, a majority of House Republicans backed the type of shutdown-averting bill that the California Republican had repeatedly sworn was unacceptable. McCarthy’s 180-degree turn could soon threaten his speakership, giving conservatives who have threatened to try to eject him plenty of fodder to make their move.

Face facts. The GOPe is paralyzed by the trauma of past government shutdowns. They fear they will be blamed if various government functions are curtailed. Sadly, short of bankruptcy, there is no way to stop feeding the monster government has become.

McCarthy=Trumps endorsement. There were nominees with a fiscally conservative record, but he loves big gov money.. wether it’s blank checks to big pharma or his save SS scheme of paying people to have babies. He didn’t say taxpayers, citizens, just people.
Return SS to its original intent and stop using it to fund Ukraine.

That's what I'm saying. Our options are limited because if we shut down the government, we get all the blame. The Democrats refuse to negotiate. They treat us like we're Al-Qaeda. They have a policy of not negotiating with Republicans.

A CR that specifically omitted border funding failed earlier in the day. 21 Republicans joined the democrats.
