People who live in any place don't like large numbers of foreigners coming in. That's just the way it is. No need to agonize over it now.

Interestingly, the general the Bear rebellion captured wasn't opposed to US annexation. It did not end up that great for his family, as the new arrivals had clever lawyers who took land away from them.

Considering they were drunk and racist, that’s as close to a bear it would get.

The bear on the California Republic flag is Glad Lee the Cross-Eyed Bear.

They are assuming a connection to the Confederacy because they are linking the bear to Robert E. Lee.
