Let’s say this report is true, I have no way of knowing for sure, I have to question if Ukraine would have the resources and manpower to sustain any kind of break thru.

I think back to December of 1944, the Germans broke thru the American lines in the Ardennes Forest, they made some fairly significant advances, once they got stopped, the German Army fell apart pretty quickly because they had no resources to continue the offensive and were overwhelmed by allied forces.

The war was on the way to being over before the Battle of the Bulge, but this battle killed off any life left in the German Army in the West.

I see similarities in the Ukraine Army, they have thrown everything they have into this offensive, basically they have gone nowhere.

The new long-range missiles the US is giving Ukraine will do very little except inflict damage inside of Russia, where they most likely will be used.

I would imagine that one condition the Ukes would need to accept is to only employ the ATACMS on Ukrainian territory, but that would include territories seized/occupied by the Russkies.

You can be assured, if these new missiles can reach Moscow, they will get launched there as soon as Ukraine gets them.

If Ukraine was willing to give assurances, they would only attack targets inside Ukraine or the currently occupied areas, why haven’t they been given the missiles by now.

In war it’s all fair game to me, Kiev and Moscow included, Ukraine has certainly been launching drones at Moscow, those attacks have mostly been symbolic, these new missiles evidently carry some thump, if they can reach Moscow, I would not be surprised to see the Kremlin hit immediately.

I will “be assured” of your speculation when you can cite for me when Ukraine used a Storm Shadow/Scalp missile against a target inside Russia. That missile has a more than 500km range, while the ATACMS only goes out to 300km. By your logic, the Ukes would have already used the former against Russia by now, but the fact is they have only ever targeted Russian positions in either the occupied Donbas or occupied Crimea. Only Ukrainian-made drones have been used against Moscow or other points inside Russia.

History does have a way of repeating itself, the last major war fought in the geographic region was WW II which resulted in a complete bloodbath

Personally, I don’t think Ukranian has any chance to drive Russia out of the current occupied areas, no matter how much support the USA gives them.

If we are really worried about Russia continuing to advance into NATO countries like Poland and the Baltic States, I would spend the money fortifying those countries, then train Ukraine to engage in a guerilla style type war of drones and special forces, try to bleed Russia like Afghanistan did to Russia in the late 70s and 80s, IMO they have no chance to defeat Russian in a conventional armored war.

Negotiate a settlement to the current war but keep up the guerilla style war,

IMO, this entire war was not about defeating Russia but a war to bleed them, if we were serious about defeating Russia, we would have given Ukraine everything they needed years ago or certainly early on in the war, instead of doling it out piecemeal like Abrams Tanks, ATACMS missiles, air defense systems, etc. I think we are sending the weapons to Ukraine in order to extend the war giving them extra capabilities to fight but not to win.

When you talk about what “we” are really doing, I have no faith in the Biden administration so of course it’s possible.
I do think the West is trying to help Ukraine win, but that is not an easy goal and I’m not sure Biden shares the goal.
As for bleeding Russia, I reject that because Russia invaded and all they had to do was not invade, or stop the invasion and no one would be doing all this bleeding.
My hope is for a Trump presidency to end the war.

With respect to Russia invading or not, they did and that is the current reality, IMO the question now is to make Russia pay a real price for doing that.

They do have the ability to inflict real damage on Russia in a guerilla style war of sabotage and assignations of key leaders in occupied territories of Ukraine.

The saying I heard about the war in Afghanistan when the USA was there, the Taliban used to say, the Americans had all the watches, the Taliban had all the time.

If you are worried about Russia invading Poland or the Baltic States, tie them down in Ukraine thru Guerilla war style tactics.
