The Texas State Senate will vote at 10:30am Austin time, 11:30am Pacific. This will conclude the impeachment trial of Texas AG Ken Paxton.

Jeb Bush's son won two terms as Land Commissioner and then punched up to run for Attorney General. He lost to incumbent Ken Paxton, who is probably more conservative than Greg Abbott.
Paxton had previously served in the Texas state House for fi ve terms, and in the state Senate for one term before running for Attorney General. He had established bona fides.
Bush only had a law degree and a clerkship for a federal district court judge in his CV when he ran for Land Commissioner.
This was the Bush wing trying to clear the field for another future run for George P. Bush, who hadn't yet "paid his dues" in lower offices before reaching for the top elected positions.
