I’ve done the kiosk a few times and have been surprised at how bad the user interface is. It’s counterintuitive, it doesn’t flow, and like you say, it requires prior knowledge. Good UI design is an art and you’d think McDonalds would have nailed it but somehow they seem to have missed the mark.
Yep lol. You could melt artillery barrels with those things. The bubbly, blistery crust was a foreshadowing of how your mouth was going to look after you ignored the warnings on the box about the hot filling. But man were they tasty!
... like In-N-Out. They're quite successful with their simple menu: 4 items plus drinks ... although there are many off-menu mods.
I haven’t been to one in years. They used to be my go-to on short road trips. (4-6 hours.)
I didn’t know they’d gone the kiosk route, but I’m not surprised.
Don’t forget the fries when they were cooked in lard (beef tallow was what it said on the box)!

As far as the taste goes, run the water (if it’s available) or your drink of choice for about 2 to 3 seconds before filling your cup in order to flush the nozzle.

Went into a McD’s 10 years or more ago and saw kitchen staff handling the food with bare hands. Left, never returned. Or to any other fast food chain.

I’ll have the quarter pounder meal with small fries and a small drink. I am sorry we don’t do small on combo meals; just medium and large. How much is a quarter pounder no meal, but with small drink and fries? $1 more than the combo meal with medium.

My daughter is sarcastic and hard headed like me and smart of course. One day the McD asst mgr, the managers 19 year old boy. My daughter 16. He said your drawer (at the drive thru) was $1.45 short. Response my draw is used by everyone else to make change including you. Him: still I have to write someone up when we’re short. It’s your drawer. Her: Then write yourself up since you were taking change out all day. No I’m writing you up. Don’t bother, I quit I can get a job anywhere with managers who are not idiots.
