In a shocking and largely unprecedented move, New Mexico Gov. Michell Lujan Grisham "suspended" gun rights on Friday, citing an emergency declaration for "gun violence" she had signed the day prior.
The move immediately overrode duly passed open and concealed carry laws in Albuquerque, the state's largest city. According to Grisham, she will review the order every 30 days and make a decision on extending it. Under the order, other cities within New Mexico could also see their gun rights stripped depending on their levels of violent crime.
When pressed on the legality of the situation, Grisham responded by saying that her oath to the Constitution is "not absolute."

If New Mexicans don’t push back hard on this, you’ll see more “emergency powers” in other states soon. Mark my words.

her oath to the Constitution is "not absolute." Typical Democrat.
An oath is not absolute. There must be a "fingers crossed" exception for Democrats.

“Largely” unprecedented. What does that mean. It’s either unprecedented or not. Are there no editors?

SE/Eastern NM needs to join TX. The rest of the state is an Indian and Hispanic welfare state of poverty, obesity and alcoholism; hardly a population of resistance.

It should be a Felony for any elected or appointed official to have anyone in their employ or employed on their behalf in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Because GUNS ARE DANGEROUS, it is for their Safety.

From your link:
"New Mexico could now prove the next big opportunity for gun rights advocates in tackling the public health rationale for gun control."
Good to see the reach for the silver lining, but how many people are going to have their lives turned upside down by this governor? Open carry is legal in New Mexico, and even though it's a blue state, plenty of people have CCW's. Oh, and New Mexico has CCW reciprocity with most other states, so anyone obeying the actual laws passed by the NM legislature could easily get swept up in this. Cold comfort to know that you're "in the right" when you're spending thousands of dollars on legal fees and spending a few nights in the ABQ graybar hotel.

If keeping the 2nd Amendment was a leftist issue, they would have this governor’s action in front of a friendly judge before the ink was dry!

Democrats have a new mantra:
"Rule by decree is the only way to save our democracy".
Power is a drug as addicting as cocaine or heroin, as as far as anyone knows the only antidote involves a rope and a tree.

When pressed on the legality of the situation, Grisham responded by saying that her oath to the Constitution is "not absolute." Her commitment to ropes and trees should be absolute.

This, THIS RIGHT THE F**K HERE, is exactly what you, me, and everyone with a logical brain was talking about back in 2020 and 2021 when the various state governors were using “Public Health Emergency” declarations to rule by unilateral fiat and remove constitutional and legislatively enacted rights.
THIS STORY, happening right now in Alburquerque, is a direct and specific outcome of NOT PUSHING BACK in ’20/’21 and allowing governors to take control without legislative approvals. The governor has just declared gun possession unlawful, under the auspices of a Public Health Emergency.”
Folks, they are testing the waters, and there needs to be an immediate lawsuit and injunction.
(Via AP) – ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday issued an emergency public health order that suspends the open and permitted concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque for 30 days in the midst of a spate of gun violence.
The Democratic governor said she is expecting legal challenges but felt compelled to act in response to gun deaths, including the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy outside a minor league baseball stadium this week.
The firearms suspension is tied to a threshold for violent crime rates that only the Albuquerque area currently meets. Police are exempt from the temporary ban on carrying firearms.
Lujan Grisham said the restrictions “are going to pose incredible challenges for me as a governor and as a state.”
“I welcome the debate and fight about how to make New Mexicans safer,” she said at a news conference, flanked by leading law enforcement officials, including the district attorney for the Albuquerque area.
Lujan Grisham referenced several recent shootings in Albuquerque. Among them was a road rage shooting Wednesday outside a minor league baseball stadium that killed 11-year-old Froyland Villegas and critically wounded a woman as their vehicle was peppered with bullets while crowds departed an evening game. Do not be naive enough to think this is not being coordinated with the people in control of the White House. There is ZERO chance this is an independent decision by the New Mexico governor, ZERO CHANCE.
Now…. Connect the dots. YESTERDAY:
White House – […] “The actions of persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. For this reason, the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13224 of September 23, 2001, as amended, and the measures adopted to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond September 23, 2023. Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency with respect to persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism declared in Executive Order 13224, as amended.”

Song by George Gershwin in Porgy and Bess was A Woman is a Sometimes Thing (1935).
And apparently, so do some government officials believe applies to God given rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Already burdened with limitations, fees, state interpretations, restrictions and databases, gun rights are being stripped from citizens.

This is breathtakingly criminal action and treason. The governor should be arrested, confined. Impeached and imprisoned for violating the US Constitution and the oath of office.

“Good to see the reach for the silver lining, but how many people are going to have their lives turned upside down by this governor?”
The process is the punishment. By the time any Court rules against the Governor, law abiding citizens will have already suffered. And the governor herself will suffer no repercussions whatsoever.
Government leaders who are found to violate Federal and/or State Constitutions should be found both criminally and civilly liable for those violations. If they, instead of the citizens and tax-payers, had to pay the costs you would find them to be less likely to do the same again.
