Hurricane Hunters found #Idalia’s pressure has plunged into the 960s. #flwx 🌀
Idalia isn’t messing around. I’m amazed the NHC forecast holds the storm at hurricane strength when it crosses into GA.
I rode through Hurricane Ike. 80 miles inland. At my house the pressure read 970. 90 MPH winds here. I live in an area with lots of pine trees. That night, there were a lot of trees snapping.
Back in my day, we used InHg - and we liked it!
The big Cleveland Blizzard of 1978 had a barometric pressure that dipped to 28.28 InHg, the equivalent of about 957 millibars. It remains the lowest recorded barometric pressure ever in Ohio. Wind gusts in that event registered up to 82 mph at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, and wind chills were 60 below 0.
Needless to say, when the barometer drops like its doing in Idalia, it's NOT good news.
